Why Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Lies.

Why CarelonRx Pharmacy Steals.

Why BioPlus Pharmacy is Incompetent.

This is my true story about how Anthem and its associated companies lie, steal and are incompetent.

Problem 1: Unnecessary Prior Authorizations

Anthem’s anti-patient policy of requiring new PA’s for patients on existing therapy to continue taking their medication. This policy serves no purpose other than to save money for Anthem’s client and to increase administrative burden on providers (Murphy, et al. 2026). Some of which now pass the cost on to the patient in the form of fees that are not reimbursable. I am aware PA’s can transfer from one PBM to another because I have experienced this transition in the past from Express Scripts to Caremark where I had little to no issues. However, Caremark’s transition to Anthem has been a headache that delayed my medical care

Practitioners pick up the administrative cost (with some passing the cost on to the patient) while patients pay in the form of delays to their healthcare.

Problem 2: Failure to Listen and Relate

My refill date of Entyvio was supposed to be January 2, 2026, but the transition to Anthem disrupted this process. When my provider called to obtain a new PA that Anthem required for continuing my existing therapy of Entyvio, she was asked when my next dose was. Her response was January 11, 2026 which is true, however I have no medication on hand to take my next dose. Anthem, in keeping with patient advocacy, thought it was wise to approve the PA starting from January 11, 2026. This makes no sense because that is the date I am due to take the medication so it will never be here in time for me to take the dose that same day. Did anyone at Anthem think to ask if the patient had any medication on hand before approving this PA? No, absolutely not! Therefore, I am without medication. While I do not know if this PA was approved by an automated process (AI) or an actual person I will call this failure to listen and relate.

My interaction:
  • Patient: I'd like to fill my prescription...
  • Anthem: LOL, you have PA not a prescription.

The Aftermath

Healthcare shouldn't be a battle against your own insurer. If you’ve had a similar experience with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, you aren't alone.
